Our Story

“Building a Strong Foundation…One Horse at a Time!”

Black Thunder Farms or “BTF” began many years ago with a quick glimpse into a pasture along the highway. My mother saw these adorable little creatures and our interest was born. We spent the next five years researching and attending different local miniature horse shows. Our first horse, a stallion, was purchased after he placed in the Top Ten at Fort Worth. That first purchase was our first step into the wonderful world of miniature horse ownership and it has become a huge part of all our lives.

Each horse that has found a way into our hearts and onto our farm has it’s own unique personality. They each have their likes and dislikes. In the evening you will find us sitting outside just watching our horses run, play, and then come to us for their favorite treats. It’s our favorite time of the day.

Our program focus is to produce outstanding horses in an Arabian miniature. Some of the bloodlines you will find within our program, for those who follow pedigrees, are: Rowdy, Paul Bunyan, Roan Ranger, Gold Melody Boy, Egyptian King, Monashee, Baylee, Tymer, and Stonehenge Painted Feather. We strive for long legged, well-balanced conformation with short backs and a nicely proportioned back-end for power in the driving arena. We like little dished heads and tiny teacup noses with tight little, chiseled ears and large doe eyes that reach your very soul.

Check out our farm gallery for pictures of our developing farm. We just completed our new show barn and are looking forward to the conveniences it will afford us. We will continue to add pictures from time to time to show our progress. Our entire farm is wooded and areas must be cleared for each project.

We purchased the rights to the farm name Coyote Runs Farm from a wonderful lady that bred one of our best mares several years ago. My daughter and I have an interest in the taller "B" size miniatures and eventually shetlands so we are going to list our taller mini's under the Coyote Runs farm name. As time goes by we will have something listed on that part of our website.
